The boys honor Taylor Swift at the CMT Artists of the Year

In case some of you missed Tyson’s post on his fb page:

Last night was explosive. Being the first time in 1 1/2 years for this band to put their collective feet on a stage, it felt like a baptism in pure concentrated bliss.
We were there to honor Ms. Taylor Swift with a version of her song “mean”, and believe you me, we were a nervous wreck. Gaylor was sick as a deadeye dick so he was mixed up on a cold medicine high and fighting the drowsy with 5 hour Energy. Somehow, it was a brilliant combination to make the execution of his rabbit footed drum part come off beautifully.

Ms Audra Mae, the female voice on this new record when one does occur, was just perfect on the background vocals and tambourine. Golden tambourine at that. She and I were both giving each other Le Mas class style nervous breakdowns before we took the stage, but not on purpose. I was a bit more spastic with swearing my nerves away at the situation that was approaching.
I didn’t feel strong about the rehearsals at all on my part. I kept flunking on the words in the first verse and somehow they wouldn’t stick. I was just freaking out overall. My nerves are like a 700 pound butterfly that is trapped in my stomach. It’s painful when I let it grow and flap it’s wings take over.

So, we sat down to eat the feast before the show began. This whole show was banquet style in a golden globes fashion, so that meant the thing was taped following this glorious meal. I didn’t eat a nibble, I had a butterfly that kept me brim full with it’s constant flutter. Jesus, I had nerves of a shell shocked war vet watching pokemon. I was a nut case. Not to mention that we were seated right next to Ms.swift’s table mind you. When she came over to greet us with her princess-ian (new word) delight that we were to honor her that night, I had to head backstage before the last dish was served. I paced the backstage for about 100 miles which helped me with some jitters, and then an hour later we were on deck.
The Avett Brothers were in front of us and they played beautifully. They’re presence on stage was lulling to this basket case and made me glow with a sudden confidence. We were the ONLY rock band on here, and we were about to shake Nashville. We were about to play for the full bellies of Keney Chesney, Brad Paisley, Lady Antebellum, Lionel Richie, and Christ, even William Shattner. This was going to go down like a hand-me-down lead lined prom dress on a cool spring night.

We had the moment, we stole it. We we like the big bell that hadn’t been rung for years but was dying to get the dust off it’s belly. We rang in one solid tone. We had it. It was the truest to myself ive felt since I sang “matters of the heart” the one and only time to a crowd in Denver.
Nashville accepted these rejects. It meant a Great deal to me and will be a night I won’t soon forget. and boy oh boy, we surely gave that song a run for it’s money.

The show in question will air December 13th at 9/8c on CMT. Don’t miss the boys doing their best Taylor Swift impression!
